But oh, those summer nights…

Friends, as we wind down to cooler weather… when you think of a summer night when you were around 13-16, the air smells sweet, the sky is clear, you are happy, there is nothing to stand in your way, hopeful for anything fantastic, a smile on your face and a song in your heart… Maybe you are riding in a car with your dad watching the telephone poles fly by, or camping with your family, maybe sitting around the record player… What song is that that plays in your head?

For me it is many… but first to come to mind:
Love is the Answer (single version) – England Dan and John Ford Coley
Always and Forever – Heatwave
’65 Love Affair – Paul Carrack
Steal Away – Robbie Dupree
Sara – Fleetwood Mac
Magic – Olivia Newton-John

Ask me again tomorrow and they might change, but for now, thats what I got. What are your songs?

Cold days of winter are here

I don’t know about you, but I like winter. I look forward to cold days inside, and days inside mean more time for A&S projects! Whether its prizes for competitions, gifts, or something I need, I definitely relish some down time.

This year I’m looking for to leather working, jewelry making, forge time, tent painting, learning more songs, and practicing with the oud and more.

What do you look forward to? Would you rather be outside? I usually prefer to be as well, but this winter, I can certainly use the down time!

Happy winter all!

Satisfaction to your face!

Greetings friends!

maces and daggers
maces and daggers

What gives you the most satisfaction when causing the death of a fellow armored combatant on the field? I love shooting someone square in the grill. Its nice when my skills and the opportunity affords the sweet shot. But those seasoned veterans wielding a sword and board are very good at covering up their noggin, which makes the sweet shot even more glorious!

So what is your weapon of choice? I know it is impractical to carry an arm load of throwing maces on the field, but have you taken someone out with one? A clean shot with a siege engine? Throwing dagger to the face?

What makes you smile?

Uncle Valiance Wants You!

The time is close. Join the movement.

Think of the martial peerage this way: Does it make sense to only offer a path of recognition in the Laurel to only those who practice weaving? Should those who make scrolls have to prove their numbers or participation before they are allowed a path to peerage? No.

When the Laurel was created, the founders through serendipity or design, created a peerage that can cover every art. Though not perfect, and not every art is technically covered, there is a path.

The ‘Valiance Propsal’ would cover all the last remaining martial groups. The last remaining groups who currently have no path to peerage recognition in the SCA.

There is no reason why certain segments of this great Society should be omitted from this path.
The time is nearing, please add your voice to doing the right thing. Even if it is only wearing the badge to show support, that is more than enough. Write a pithy letter of support to the BoD.

Join the cause because its the right thing to do. Its the most efficient and direct way to fix this glaring omission that has hurt this Society for decades.
