Excuse me, you dropped this…

When it comes to weapons on the battlefield, one aspect is interesting: Reusability.

Gleaning isn’t something we readily grasp or deal with, but if you are a CA using tube ammo, it comes quickly. There is another are though, thrown weapons!

Dont forget a few daggers in your belt, or a mace or two in your ammo bag can come in handy again and again. Dropping them on the ground is not an issue.

Though not specifically in law, it follows that these are legally gleanable. As stated in the rules, before using these in combat, make sure your marshals know and approve of their usage.

As always make sure you Kingdom law allows for specific weapons!

Reflection on open discussion – Valiance Proposal

We had a good discussion on the peerage today. The biggest takeaway is we need more visibility. Something that we have been discussing already.

But something else occurred to me, as we had the discussion, we might want to consider not trying to push for a peerage for not just one specific weapon, but for being a master in one or more weapons. As a knight would be expected to be proficient in sword, polearm, spear etc. (aside from other qualifiers as deemed requisite)

Siege for instance only gets to field at the handful of events per year, or equestrian for example. Make sense? Thoughts?

How Dry I Am – Dry Sites in the SCA

I recently realized Im going to a dry event. It isnt the first time this has happened, and it wont be the last. The site being dry wont keep me away.

I have to ask though, what’s the deal with dry sites? In a world where we are adults, and drinking is legal, whats the point?

I have been to larger events where some parties can get out of hand, but even then a few and far between. Smaller events this is a rarity at best.

Is this a decision made by autocrats that don’t imbibe? Are they the only facilities within 100 miles?

Im not saying event’s cant be fun without alcohol, but I will say in my experience, more people participate in bardics with it.

Why do you imagine, or know, we use dry sites?
